▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage contends that Everglades
which is subtropical wetland located in southern Florida are being destroyed
due to environmental problems. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up
several points that contradict this argument.
First, the lecturer argues that the water
pollution from nearby agricultural facilities will be solved. This is because
new government regulation limits fertilizers, so amount of chemicals from
fertilizers would be declined. Also, the fertilizers with harmful chemicals are
switched into other fertilizers that do not contain significant harmful
chemical. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s argument that water
pollution destroys Everglades.
Second, according to the lecture, the soil
lost have being remedied. The reason is that the local officials and citizens
began to restore fertile soil in the region, and the results are promising. In
addition, this process works faster, returning soil to original condition soon.
This refutes the reading passage’s assertion that the soil is being lost within
near future.
The final points made by the lecturer is
that government effort to restore the Everglades. Florida government buy huge areas
and they have plan to return this to marshland. This could be larger habitats
to several animal species such as Florida panther. And this help the species to
increase their population. This counters the reading passage’s claim that the
human development in the Everglades causes the extinct of animal species lived
in the Everglades.
