Undoubtedly, experiences play a significant role in people’s daily lives
in many of the places where they work or play. Some people think that it is
beneficial for teenage students to have part-time jobs, while others do not.
Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I had to
choose one, I would say that students who have part-time jobs are more likely
to succeed that those who have not.
To begin with, having a part-time job allows teenage students to improve
their sense of responsibility. Working requires many obligations such as
managing time, abiding by rules, and respecting others. When such obligations
are fulfilled, they are likely to realize that it bring about a good result.
For example my younger brother used to be lazy and selfish. He has changed
little by little after he started going to work at a fast-food restaurant on
time. He realized that his punctuality could
help him work with others more easily while his laziness could negatively
affect everyone. Naturally, he became more prompt with time, played his part
better, and even encouraged others to be more responsible. Without this
experience, he would still have been irresponsible.
In addition, when teenage students have part-time jobs, it will help
them cultivate important qualities needed for success. Working while in school
requires them to be diligent, passionate and self-disciplined. When these
personal traits are developed, Iit is
likely to bring a better result in school. For example, Tokyo University found
a huge difference between two groups of young adults in academic performance.
One group consisted of those who spent two hours working after school, and the
other group was made up of those who never worked. The researchers found that
the former was more likely to have a higher score on the SAT than the latter.
In particular, the first group showed a longer attention span, a stronger
passion in their tasks, and a better ability to delay gratification. On the
other hand, the second group tended to get distracted easily, procrastinate,
and act on impulse. This implies that having a part-time job is the key to
success, academically as well as professionally. Without work experience, one
would fall behind.
All things considered, I strongly believe that it is beneficial for
teenage students to have part-time jobs for the reason I have mentioned above.
All in all, the importance of work experience cannot be overestimated in the
pursuit of success in life.
