Some people think that giving grades to students is bad for them because of the pressure students feel by grades. However, in my opinion, grades make them study harder and in correct way.
To begin with, grades provide students the motivation. It is clear that students will study less when grades are disappear. Because they can know their acheivements in direct way, they can make clear goal and this helps a lot to motivate them. Also, they think that they should study harder when get lower grades than their expectation. For sure, there are some problems which is made by grades. Some students get too much stress and pressure and they are abnormally absessed with grades. However, if school teaches that grades are only academic measures, not the life measures, students could handle the stress well.
On top of that, students do need evaluation. They need to know if they study in correct way or not. Grades can do this guide's role. If teachers don't provide grades to students,
the only way they can take their teacher's opinion is a personal meeting. However, in most school, the number of students per one teacher is over thirty. In this situation, it is impposible to take personal meeting with every students. This is physical impossibility, regardless of teacher's effort. There is opinion that sometimes grades do not play a role of guide well. Although it is true in some cases, the problem is a wrong standard to evaluate, not the evaluation itself. Teachers have to evaluate students in various way and respect variety of individual. So, it is true that there is need to revise the way of evaluation, but still evaluation is essential for
students as a guideline.
To sum up, despite of some sideeffects of them, grades do need for students. It is because providing grades motivates students to study and tell them how to study indirectly. In these reasons, I think providing students with grades promotes learning.
