The reading passage presents several reasons to believe that the Pterosaurs would have not been able to flight
fly. However, the professor rejects each point
mentioned by the author.
To begin with, the author points out that ancient reptiles like the Pterosaurs were cold-blooded so they will not
be would not have been able to fly because
of a slow metabolism. In contrast, the professor says that the claim is not
convincing. This is because according to the a
research, dense, hair-like covering of the Pterosaurs was discovered. This covering like hair hair-like covering is a typical characteristic of
warm-blooded animals. Therefore, if their metabolism was fast like warm-blooded
animals, they could would have been able to
generate energy that was needed to fly.
Another point from the reading is that the Pterosaurs'
weight is would have been too heavy to stay
keep flapping
their wings fast. On the other hand, the professor argues that this assertion
is flawed. This is due to the fact that the animals were light for size
unlike prediction for their size. Their
bones were hollow and this these bones
would have kept them light. Thus, they were able to flap their wings by using
their air light bones.
Finally, the author mentions
that the Pterosaurs' leg muscles were so small
and weak that they could not run fast and jump high to take off from the
ground. However, the lecturer insists that this statement can be dismissed. The
reason is that they had four limbs unlike birds, which
have only having two limbs. For example, bats can push off the
ground using the four limbs. Thus, even the largest
animals had no problem launching into the air by
using four limbs although their muscles were weak.
