There are plenty of ways that people try to
make themselves healthier. Some might try to exercise regularly or go on a diet
while others try to get on a good night sleep. However, among the three given
choices, having a positive attitude seems the best way to become healthier.
Reasons of this selection are stated at following paragraphs.
To
begin with, mental health is as important as physical health. However, people
often forget its importance and just leave it even if they have problems with
it. Thus, one has to always care about mental health before it is too late.
Unlike physical health, one cannot maintain his or her mental health simply by
exercising or diet and this is why having mental health is somewhat harder than
maintaining physical health. In order to have it, one should have a positive
attitude towards oneself and not blame oneself of doing something wrong. For
example, my sister had felt negatively of herself that she always blamed
herself when she made a mistake in exams. Although she had a good sleep and a
good diet, she usually looked devastated after her exam period.
Secondly, negative attitude makes a person to
be lethargic. People having negative feelings usually blame themselves even for
minor things. In addition, when involving in social life, they feel others do
not like them and feel good-for-nothing themselves. This makes them to feel
lethargic, and if worse, depressed. A few days ago, there was a news interview
about the cause and method to prevent depression. The doctor, the interviewee
stated that the main cause of depression is feeling oneself as useless and keep
thinking of his or her own future negative. Thus, in order to have good mental
health, thinking as positive as possible is the most crucial thing.
Lastly, having negative attitude makes a
person prone to addiction. Being captured by anxiety and empty, people having
negative personality eager to find things that can give them relief and try to
rely on those things. I once saw a document about a jobless man who suffered
from serious alcohol addiction. He constantly accused himself and felt as if he
were a loser and kept relying on alcohol, leading to addiction. If he were
positive about his future and trusted himself, he would be able to get over his
situation and maintain his health, too.
Nowadays, there are a number of people who have
mental illnesses but do not recognize themselves of having them. Unlike
physical health, it is rather difficult to monitor mental health because many
have no regard to its importance. However, maintaining good mental health is as
important as good physical health since mental illness cause people to be
depressed and serious addiction which also harm body as well as spirit. Since
the key to mental health is to have a positive attitude, I would select the
last among the three given choices. |
