Some people think that technology is just an impediment for children to
develop their creativity. However, in my opinion, the
advance of technology allows children to express what they want effectively
with digital tools and to develop their ingeniousness by giving vast amount of
information.
First, technology enables children to
express their imagination or ideas with electronic tools. Only using oil
pigments or color pencils and papers has limits. People, including kids should
afford to buy all those traditional items, and space and time are also
required to use. However, thanks to advancement of digital tools,
children can draw or paint without limits. For example, my younger cousin uses her father’s tablet to draw her own illustrations.
She downloaded applications such as
Sketch-up or Photoshop, so she can use a numerous effects of watercolor, oil color, or markers. By using those
elements, she can delineate and draw what she wants
to express accurately and sometimes even more creatively. If it had not been for
such developed technology, she would have limited her creativeness with
limits of tools.
Second, with approachable information due to the internet, children can
accumulate knowledge of a particular field,
which is crucial for someone to be creative. There It has been said that if someone wants to be creative
and distinctive, accurate knowledge for that area is crucial. So without
borrowing heavy books or asking advices to expertise experts, children can master what they want to learn by just using computers. For instance, one of my
friends who went to MIT Media lab, the most famous science and arts university in the U.S,
said that he reached all of information related to science and
technology by utilizing the internet when he was young. He got the blueprints
of moving products, such as clocks or toy cars and he purchased all making
tools at an on-line market. Moreover, by
accumulating those various informations, he created his own devices such
as auto-cleaning machines or robots which enabled him to win various science
competitions which required a high level of
creativity. Thanks for to the Internet,
he could develop his knowledge and imagination related to the field that he was
really in to.
To sum up, high
technology, such as digital tools or vast amounts of information by Internet
allow children to express themselves effectively or be the master and
much creative related to their area. In this regard, I disagree with the notion
that technology has made children less creative
than they were in the past.
