(Various opinions may exist over the argument) Many people argue whether the news media is a reliable source of unbiased information or not. As far as I am concerned, I completely disagree with the statement that it is reliable. (am complete disagreement of argument.) The two reasons stated below can
be valid evidence to support my view.
To begin with, news media
strive for their own advantage. What I mean is that
major corporations portray events favorable to their interest. There is one
example. Republic of Korea had a big project called the Four
Major River project. (which was four river refurbishment project.)
They first thought this would bring positive effects. (positive aspect
such as reducing time when they move products from Seoul to Busan.) So TV networks such as KBS and MBC which are the
most influential media networks in Korea (is nation’s
broadcasting station and have a big power) broadcasted a lot about the good aspects of the project. (to get agrees from many people.) (But) However,
one of the minor TV stations, JTBC (which is small
broadcasting station) broadcasted the opposite aspects of it. They thought
that if the four major rivers flew into (linked to) one river, it would bring harm to wildlife and the
environment. (devastate and dirty, so any animals and insects might not live in there.)
A lot of people protested against it. (of reverse gave a warning to the
country.) However, the government did not listen to its people
and carried on the project as planned. (undertaking was
implemented because nation had forced to start.) As a result, businesses went bankrupt and the environment was damaged. (could not get good effect because it needed to a lot of money and nature
got worse and worse.) This example proves that (As seen this example, we can know that) big corporations describe events
favorable to their profit.
Furthermore, news programs and newspapers make stories more (colorful and) dramatic.
News companies want to get viewers and readers to maximize their profits. For instance, there was one event in (republic of) Korea. It was about a restaurant that used unhealthy ingredients to make their
food, and it spread very fast online. (The content was
that one restaurant used unhealthy material and it rapidly spread in social
network service.) The media exaggerated a lot to make the
story more appealing. (News wirters wrote articles more
exaggerated and even broadcasting stations broadasted more exciting.) Many people got mad, so they criticized and boycotted the restaurant. (So the restaurant took a lot of attacks and criticisms from the public.)
As a result, the restaurant could not run their business any longer. However, 3 months later, people found out that what they saw on TV was not entirely true. (got to know that the material used in restaurant was not unhealthy
product, it was just seasoning.) People felt bad for the owner of the
restaurant, but it was too late. (said sorry but event was beyond recall. This
example shows that (As seen this example, we can know that) the news media fabricate
facts.
To sum up, news media and companies are just organizations that try to maximize their profit by getting more viewers or readers. (to acquire their profits and more readers.) In this regard, I firmly
believe that the news media is an unreliable source
of (biased) information.
