Some people think that explaining how a
subject can be helpful outside school to make student be interested in the
subject is not that best way. however, in my opinion, providing information
about practical knowledge in the class is the most effective way for students’
learning. There are two reasons. One reason is that connecting academic knowledge
to outside school work can be a driving force for students to get ready for
their jobs. The other is that the class which is only helpful for exams can
decrease the sutudent’s will to study.
To begin with, schools should teach their
students not only textbook knowledge but also how to apply it to their real-life.
Students may struggle to choose their jobs or find the information what is
necessary for their career in the future. However, if teachers explain concretely
how a subject can be useful outside school, students will be able to take their
course easily. For example, when I was in high school, I loved to write essays and
wanted to be a journalist. At that time, I thought that Korean was the most
required subject for my job. However my homeroom teacher told me that to be a
journalist, there are many requisite subjects besides Korean. After realizing
that, I started to be interested in history and social studies. Until now, those
of knowledge have been really helpful for my work.
On the top of that, if students realize that the
objective of studying is only for school exams, it may become hard for them to
concentrate on their class. All they can do is just sitting in front of desk
and listening to teacher’s voice. It can make them being passive and decrease wills
to study. A study was conducted by the Ministry of Education for 5 years to determine
whether teaching a subject helpful to outside school could affect student’s
attitude to the class. There were two schools monitored. The first school was teaching
only textbook knowledge, and the other was teaching practical skills besides
academic skills. They were asked to take test to measure their level of student’s
concentraing on the class. The researchers compared the outcomes and recorded
that the latter group had significantly higher level of students’ participating
in class. The reason was that students tend to interest in the class which is
helpful for their real life rather than for exams.
To sum up, practical knowledg with a subject is helptul for leading a student's future career to correct way. Moreover, teaching only textbook knowlege has negative effect on studnets' study will. In this regard, I firmly believe that the best way to make student
be interested in a subject is to expalin how it can be helpful for the reasons I
mentioned above.
