▶ Your Answer :There might be some people who believe that selecting a job in the same field as their parent is better for young people than choosing a different career. However, I personally disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons. Firstly, there is a generation gap between parent and young people. Secondly, current jobs are continuously disappearing and appearing. To begin with, social perception is different between past and current, so young people can be disturbed about whether parent’s advises make sense. I will bring up my personal story as an example. When I got into a university, my parent were working in economic area and advised me to choose economics as a major, so I complied my parent's advice. However, students in economic major were so many that they had to arduously compete with others at that time. As a result, I ended up failing to get a job for several years. If I had not comformed my parent’s advice, I could have a decent job as soon as possible.
On top of that, a lot of jobs have been changing after development of computer. This is because that computer program can substitute human’s work. This is more serious than people think. According to recent research done by Korea University Professor Kim, 70 percent of current jobs would be disappeared and many other new jobs would appear. This is due to the fact that new technology dubbed machine learning would replace most of human’s work in the future. This clearly shows that simple work such as parents' job is more likely to be extinguished and it might be dangerous for young people to select a job in the same field as their parent.
As I mentioned above, there is not only a generation gap, a great deal of jobs is but also continuously shifting. In this regard, I strongly believe that young people don’t have to choose same career with their parent.
