▶ Your Answer : Modern society is often called as the age of information.
Coupled with the surging technology of computers and smartphones, the
development of the internet, made us be in the midst of flood of information.
This has both positive and negative effects.
To begin with, by using search engines like “Google” and “Naver”,
we can get information fast and easily, which is a good impact. People search
for recipes before cooking and equations before taking exams. If it had not
been for internet, I couldn't have gotten the tips of taking TOEFL test and I
should ask to the other people face to face. In addition, thanks to internet,
we can monitor government and firms. If one person gets an unreasonable treat
from them, he or she can share it on the internet. Then, people who thinks it's
also unfair can back up the person and protest together. In Korea, in 1960,
there was a protest to the authoritarian on June in Guang-ju. The government
sent the army and controlled the whole city to get rid of protesting people.
However, nowadays, this kind of miserable events can hardly happen since
individuals can monitor the absurdities and share them on the internet.
On the other hand, the availability of information can cause
an adverse impact on society too. There're as much false information as true
information on the internet. For instance, one of my friends was swindled when
she was trying to buy an iPhone on a website. Smart criminals use internet to
lure naive people to make money. Likewise, there're a bunch of useless
information everywhere. Most website pages are filled with gossips that entice
people to click to advertise something. Furthermore, the private information
can be shared unwantingly. If the security system of the website is not
reliable enough, hackings can ruin my privacy or steal my work.
In light of the above facts and examples, the easier
accessibility to the information brought both positive and negative effects to
today's world. Therefore, we should use the double-edged sword, the internet,
properly to facilitate our lives. |
