In this set of issues, both the reading passage and the
speaker discuss the cause of red rain in Kerala. To be specific, according to
the reading passage, the red rain in the area of India might be caused have been caused by the blood of bats, volcanic
eruption in Philippines, or chemical pollution in local factories. However, the
speaker contradicts argues that these
explanations have several problems for the following reasons.
To begin with, the professor
argues that the suggestion that the red rain is the was caused by the blood of bats is far-fetched. This
is because, according to a research, about 5 million of bats which were killed by some environmental phenomenon
made the red rain. The speaker explains that bats
were necessary to make the amount of the red rain at that time, but states that this is so extreme and is an impossible amount. Moreover, any bones or wings
of bats were not discovered at that period. These explanations refute the
reading passage’s argument that myriad (문장을 다 끝내시지 않은 것 같아요. Reading의
입장이 무엇이었는지 제대로 된 설명이 필요해요.)
Moreover, the speaker asserts that
whether a volcanic eruption caused the red rain
is not proven. To be specific, if the rain was resulted from the eruption of a volcano in Philippines, the rain should have been
fallen in the Philippines. However, it did
not emerged. In addition, he explains that,
other countries between the Philippines and
India, such as Vietnam or Thailand did not also
experienced such an astounding
phenomenon. These reasons cast doubt on the assertion of the reading passage
that volcanic eruption in the Philippines caused
the red rain in India.
Finally, the lecturer claims that
chemical pollution from factories cannot be the exact reason of the red rain.
The reason is that there were a few factories in
Kerala, and therefore, there were also few chemical materials in the area. Furthermore, if chemical pollution were
was the reason of the red rain, also it
would also must have been fallen much more in
cities where there were many factories with no filters in their chimneys.
However, it did not happened. These counter the reading passage’s claim that the red rain is the
consequence of chemical pollution from factories in Kerala.
In
conclusion, the speaker challenges the explanation from the reading passage on
account of the reasons stated above
