Volunteer work should be mandatory for college students.
Some people who think that school grades are the most important often says that the volunteer work does not value. However, I agree with the statement that volunteer work should be mandatory for college students for two reasons, because the volunteer work can help students improve their leadership skills and broaden their perspectives.
First of all, students can learn many different skills while volunteering. Most volunteering works are very challenging, so students can learn how to solve the problem and achieve their goals, which they have never learned from school classes. For instance, one of famous research institutes in Korea revealed that people who had volunteered while their colleges are more likely to be leaders when they grew, even though they were not top students. The institute found that voluntary work is very effective to improve leadership skills than any other activities.
Moreover, volunteer work offers opportunities to understand others. Especially while taking care of children, older people, or disabled people, they can have a chance to talk directly with them. They can learn different perspectives from them. For example, I was volunteering for blind people to read books. I was nervous to meet them at first, but day by day we could be very close and I could listen to many interesting stories and perspectives from them. Also, It gave me a chance to feel gratitude.
| I think the volunteer work is good for college students to improve many skills that they couldn’t learn in the classroom. Furthermore, They can experience gratitude and broaden their perspective. For these reasons, I strongly believe the volunteer work should be mandatory for college students.
