Some people think that it is more important for universities to spend money on facilities than on hiring good teachers, while others do not. Both
sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I would answer the question, I would say that it is more
critical for universities to invest money in
facilities. There is a major reason, as follows.
First of all, the schools’ amenities have a profound impact on
students. To study, health is very important for students. A high quality of
facilities tends to improve students’ engagement in class. Nowadays, in the
schools, there are many well-made facilities to
provide students a good environment. For example, many research centers,
including the Singapore Research Center,
discovered a huge difference from between
two schools. One school was made 50 years ago, and the other school was made
just 3 years ago. The researchers found that most students of the former school
had a respiration problem such as asthma, and thus, there was a high number of
absenteeism. Moreover, these problems negatively
affected their study. The students tended to have a low concentration; most
students had a low grade. It was discovered that these problems was were caused by bad ventilation. However, the school
only spent money on hiring good teachers, and not
on facilities. On the other hand, many of the
latter school’s students tended to have a high grade because they could easily
concentrate on studying in the clean places. This is because the school
had poured money into making good facilities such as classrooms, gyms, laboratories, and cafeterias.
This indicates that a school’s facilities highly
influence on students.
All
things considered, I strongly believe that the advantages of spending money on
the universities’ facilities far outweigh those of investing money in hiring
great teachers for the reason I have mentioned above. All in all, the
importance of pouring money into increasing the quality of school’s facilities
cannot be overestimated in life.
