Children’s intellectual,
social, and personal development is highly influenced by their pastime. With
this understanding, I believe that television and movies have positive effects
on children’s behavior for two reasons. This is because watching television and
movies enables children to relieve stress and
enjoy a better quality of life.
First, watching
television and movies allows children to relieve
stress. Understanding the daily life of children and the potential role of
television and movies is necessary to substantiate this view. Once children are
at school, they have to endure countless textbooks and continue to read more
even at home. Such exhausting routine repeats itself and eventually wears down
children. As a way to manage the ensuing stress, children can watch interesting
animations by on television or on movies for kids. Even if it is only for a short
time, this frees their minds from the intense mental pressure from school.
Managing children’s stress is important because if they are stressed out, they
will be depressed and sometimes behave aggressively. In this regard, I learned
that watching television and movies allows
children to relieve stress, having positive effects on them.
Second, watching
television and movies enables children to enjoy a better quality of life.
Interestingly, a renowned social scientist in South Korean published an article
in “The Korean Herald” last Tuesday which claims that watching television and
movies enables children to strengthen relationships with friends. The article
claims that 68 percent of 200 Korean people surveyed
believe that watching television and movies enables
children to connect with their peers. Essentially, watching a popular TV show or animation movie promotes children to chat with
friends about what they have watched, allowing them to openly interact with one
another. Such intercommunication builds a platform not only to mingle with
peers but also create lasting memories, encouraging children to become more
socially aware and ultimately enjoy a better quality of life.
To
sum up, I believe that watching television and movies have positive effects on
children’s behavior for the following reasons: to relieve stress and enjoy a
better quality of life. Consequently, the importance of my view cannot be
underestimated for the reasons I mentioned above.
