Certainly, it will ease students to endow more time to sleep in the morning by starting school later in the morning. On the other hand, going to school early in the morning will guarantee much more of free time after school to utilize. Both facets will have valid reasons to support their ideas. Personally, I’d prefer to go to school early in time for several reasons.
To begin with, a lot of scientific research claims that studying early in the morning, around 7 AM, is the most effective way to absorb and memorize class materials. To be specific, if students had capacity to memorize English vocabulary of 100 words in a class that starts 8 AM, it will certainly broaden their ability to memorize the words up to 150 words in 7 AM class while these words will stay longer in students’ brain. For example, my little brother’s school used to start later in the morning. His academic performance was poor; his accumulated GPA was 2.8 out of 4.0. Surprisingly, as soon as his school changed the schedule to start school early in the morning, he received straight A’s and his accumulated GPA bumped up to 3.5 out of 4.0. Without the change on his school schedule, he would have received worse grades.
On top of that, opening school early in the morning gives free time to utilize with more opportunities for extracurricular activities. To elaborate on that, more time will be granted to students if school opens early and ends early. Moreover, this not only guarantees students more free time to spend with their family and friends but also endows more chance to be engaged in extracurricular activities, which will be appealing factors on their resume for university application. For instance, my best friend Ana takes classes that start early in the morning, thus had more time to be involved in extracurricular activities like Musical. In her senior year, her persistent contribution to her Musical club did really help her on her college application. Finally, she was gladly accepted to NYU for Musical major that she had been dreaming of. For these reasons, I strongly believe that going to school early in the morning has a positive impact on students’ academic performance.
