▶ Your Answer :
In the reading passage, there is ample support for the author’s
claim that coal has lots of benefits, which make coal continue to be consumed. However,
the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the author’s
point.
First, the professor in the lecture argues
that mining coals requires a lot of effort. There is a limitation in the amount
of coal nearby the surface. People have to burrow deep underneath the surface, which requires experts with professional skills. This casts doubt on the reading
passage’s assertion that people can easily mine coals which exist in the vicinity
of the surface, saying that they can spend small amount of time and effort getting rid of the
layers of soil and rock, not using technical equipment.
Next, the professor in the lecture insists that shipping coal costs
a lot of money. The matter is that this energy source is heavy and bulky. In
addition, people have to go back and forth to move coals. This counters the
reading passage’s suggestion that only a little amount of money is required to transport coals. According to the reading, people can make transportation of coal in its solid form, which makes
transporting it safe, compared to other types of fuels that have the risk of
explosions.
Finally, the professor in the
lecture contends that coal mining industries cut down costs by coming up with
labor-saving techniques. because of what fewer human technicians are sought for.
In the future, the number of people hired by the coal industry will reduce greatly. This refutes the reading passage’s claim that coal industry generate
significant number of jobs in mining operations and maintaining facilities.
