Various opinions may exist over the argument that high schools should require all students to learn basic economics. As far as I am concerned, I am in complete agreeement with the argument. The two ideas stated below can be vaild evidences to support my view.
Above all, all high school students should be required to learn basic economics so that they will acquire an outcompeting advantage over other candidates in a job market in the future. This is because people nowadays face fierce competitions in a job market because there are too many candidates with not so many jobs available. Therefore, learning basic economics would be a great knowledge for getting a job. In order to become desirable job applicants and find a success in their future career, high schools should teach basic economic knowledge to all students. Let me bring up my brother's personal story as an example. My brother is an engineer who did not learn basic economics when he was in high school. After graduation of high school, he searched a job related to the engineering. However, he could not get a job he want because many engineering companies required all job applicants to test basic economic knowledge. He ended up studying basic economics for a year, he has gotten a job. If he had learned basic economic in high school, he would be getting a job more easily.
On top of that, high school should require all students to learn basic economics, which enables students to learn more and cultivate their talent. People nowadays are living in a world of meritocracy where only extremely qualified people can survive. Modern society requires people who surpass others both in specialty and potentials. By learning basic economics, students could be able to find their intersts and talents. Let me bring up my personal story as an example. Upon my high school graduation, I was having a hard time deciding what to major at University. It was very difficult decision to make because it would relate to my future career and how my life is going to be. I ended up choosing economic major because my high school required all students to attend basic economic classes. So I was familiar with the economics, and I found my interests about national economies. If it were not for economic class, I would not decide my major.
In conclusion, I agree with that high school should require all students to learn basic economics due to the aforementioned above. |
