Some people argue that although science and technology will continue to improve, the most significant improvement for people's living quality has already taken place. Regarding this point of view, I disagree with them. First, people's potential to enhance our living is unpredictable. Also, people have always imrpoved their insights and perspectives for new inventions, by exploring the present sicence and technology.
First, people always have pontentials that are not yet revealed, but could be in the future. It is hard to determine the fact that the improvements in living quality has already taken place and therefore there will no longer be any developments. As time goes by, there are always those intelligent people that contribute to improving our life quality. For example, in a science fiction movie that I saw last week, the earth has been deteriorated due to pollution and human activity. Nevertheless, the protagonist in this movie had found a way out, and developed a new cure to recover the problems on the earth. This explains that each human has the potential and the possibilty for solving current situations in order to create a better place. It would be difficult to simply assert that there would not be anymore improvements in people's living quality.
Also, the past history indicates that human's life has always developed whether the development took several decates or even centuries. Since the past, when science and technology began its existance, people have accumulated knoweldge and information that others can delve into. It had allowed people to develop their insights and perspectives, by investigating past experiments, to develop our society and not to worsen it. From the perspective of a hisotrian, It is logical to think that our society will continue to improve and change in a better way with further developments in science and technology. For instance, even when coal was widely used as to power electricity, humans still managed to develop solar pannels that are more environmentally friendly.
The reasons stated above explains why I oppose the statement, and I believe that developments to enhance our living quality would be eternal. |
