There might be some people who believe that
the extended family is more important now than it was in the past. I personally
disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons. First, they have a
generation gap. Second, today's people rarely work with family. Firstly, the extended family's members are
hard to understand each other. This is because they have the generation gap. To
be specific, today's children or young people are under a lot of stress due to
the society's competiveness. Also they are really busy for studying and
working. Besides they are familiar to electronics such on smart phones and
others. However, old people cannot understand these things. They are relaxed
and want to live slowly. As they are hard to learn new things, they don't use
smart phones. As a result, they cannot understand each member in the extended
family, which makes people stress out. Let me bring on my personal story as an
example. I usually used Facebook by my smart phone. Since all of my friends uploaded
their stories at Facebook. However, my grandparents didn't understand me. So
they were upset because I saw the screen of the smart phone all day. Secondly, today's people don't need to the
extended family anymore. In the past, people worked together like agriculture
or factories. These really needed a lot of labor. However, these days, most
people work at company by using computer or do alone at home. Now family means
just people who are the same blood. Let me bring up my grandparent story as
an example. When he was in middle school, their family had an orchard. So he
had to work in the orchard after school. His uncles and aunts lived in same
area. They worked together since it needed many labor. However he works at
home now. With a computer that can access the internet, he does a lot more with
just a few mouse clicks. It shows that extended family isn’t needed anymore in
today’s society.
In conclusion, the extended family not only
makes the generation gap but also isn't needed now. In this regard, I strongly
agree with the statement that the extended family is less important now than it
was in the past.
