The
reading and the lecture are both about the value of zoos in today’s world. The
author believes that zoos are unethical and should be closed. The lecturer casts
doubt on the claims made in the article. He says that zoos are valuable for
several reasons.
First of all, the author states that zoos do not
doesn’t help saving animals from extinction. To be specific, Sshe argues that Iit
is difficult to encourage animal who are captured in the zoo and allowing the
animals in the wild with protection programs will be much better. This point is
challenged by the lecturer. He says that It is proven to be effective to save
and to breed animal in the zoo. For example, in the 19th century, California
condor was almost extinct and only one left there. Therefore, the zoo tried y to
recover its population and it was very successful. As a result, the population
of California condor was increased by 230.

gives an example of behavioral problems of lion to make her point. The lecturer
rebuts this claim. The lecturer argues that there is no harm for animals in the
zoo. To elaborate this he mentions that many modern zoo has natural habitat
philosophy for animal and indeed animal enjoy all the same quality of life.
Finally, the author mentions that there are
several effective ways to study animal expect going to the zoo. The lecturer,
on the other hand, claims that it is the best way to study animal. He further
explains that nothing is more valuable than watching it by one’s eyes directly.
Also, he claims that the zoo provide a great opportunity to see animals which
are not living near the human’s living space like back yard.
