More and more people nowadays raise pets such as
cats, dogs, even birds and turtles. Some people might say that it does not seem
to have a lot of benefits for children. However, In my case taking care of pets
has a positive effect on children. The reasons for this are deeply related to a
sense of responsibility and a stable emotion.
To start with, raising pets generate
educational effect. To explain, it is helpful for children to learn about
responsibility. They are able to have a sense of responsibility as they raise
pets. A sense of responsibility is one of the essential factors to be a matured
person. A person with a strong sense of
responsibility never forsakes his duty, what he has to do
in a group, try to do it ardently and make it perfectly. Therefore,
teaching responsibility should be prioritized over other values to live in a
community. A study conducted by the Korean Board of Education is a
good example of this. There were two groups monitored. One group was composed
of students who have ever raised pet before and was asked to take a test to
measure their level of a sense of responsibility. The other group consisted of
students who have never done it and was given the same direction. The
researchers compared outcomes and recorded that former group tended to perform
their task than the letter group. This study demonstrates that taking care of
pets makes a sense of responsibility stronger.
On top of that, it helps stabilize children's
emotion. Having a stable emotion is greatly important for children when they
are growing. To be specific, if their emotion is
unstable, children are more likely to be vulnerable to stressful
situations. As everyone knows, it is impossible not to face stressful
situations for the entire life. As a result, it is . For
instance, when I was a child, Both of mother and
father had to work during the day at that time and I spent a lot
of time alone at home. Plus, I usually felt nervous but I did
not know the reason. One day, my parents brought a kitty to me
and they let me take care of it. As I raised the kitty, my emotion became stabilized
and I felt no longer lonely and nervous. If my parents would not have
bought a kitty to me, I would not have been able to stabilize my
emotion.
To sum up with, raising pets is helpful for
children to have a chance to learn about responsibility. Moreover, It makes
children's emotion stable. In this regard, I personally believe that taking
care of pets is advantageous and recommend it.
