▶ Your Answer :
In the reading passage, the writer states
that digital libraries are offering a number of benefits. However, the lecturer
refutes the writer’s claim contradicting three benefits of digital libraries
cited by the writer.
First,
the lecturer argues that benefit of easy access to digital library is not for everyone.
Not all people in the world have computer or smart device that help people
access to digital libraries, so there still be many people who cannot be
provided benefit of using digital libraries. This casts doubt on the writer’s
claim that anyone can easily access books in digital libraries.
Second,
the lecturer claims that using digital libraries is actually time consuming. This
is because people who want to find just one piece of information from a certain
book have to search all the books and data that seem to be related to the
information they want to find. This job could be time consuming and not convenient. Based on this claim, the lecturer opposes the writer's assertion that digital libraries are time-saving and convenient.
Third,
the lecturer points out that intellectual property issue can appear because of
digital libraries. Thanks to digital libraries, we are able to find a huge
amount of information online. However, this apparent benefit for those who want
information could turn out to be a problem for authors. Because, more people
can access to information free, less people would buy books or information that
they were originally planning to buy. Therefore, authors earn less profits and
subsequently they finally will get discouraged to write a book or create
something new. |
