There is a controversy that
students learn more effectively when they work together compared to when they
are working alone. I agree with the statement that students learn much more
effectively when they are working in groups because students learn from each
other, and also they can broaden their perspective.
To begin with, students can learn
about what others think while they work in group projects. iIf they worked alone, their
problem solving skills would be limited since they would do not have anyone to ask
about the problems. On the other hand, group projects would provide an efficient
way to solve any unanswered questions among students. Lively discussion would also
promote more active learning. For example, I previously thought that group
project was not effective way to learn materials until I joined the math group
project. My math class divided up the students into different groups and we were asked to tried
to solve very challenging questions. I would could not have finished the project if I
worked alone. Because of the group work, I was able to finish the project on
time and learned a lot from it.
Second, students can engage in
active learning by collaboration with other students, thus students can broaden
their perspective by working together (앞의 문장과 redundant). Students would get to interact with many
students who have different background and knowledge about certain issues. Students
could can realize that their insights and values about various issues may be
different from other people, and they learn to accept opposite sides and constructive
criticisms. For instance, I got angry when I was first challenged by other
students. I previously believed that my belief was correct. But after some
discussion, I learned that I should respect other students’ opinions and their thoughts
are equally important.
Finally, In conclusion, I strongly agree with the statement that students
can learn more effectively when they work in groups because they can help each
other, and they can learn to understand opposite side of views.
