▶ Your Answer :
Some
people think that basic Economics should be taught to high school students
because it is important. However,
in my opinion, students do not need to learn basic Economics in high school.
There
are two reasons. First, a fundamental of Economics is Mathematics. Also, we
cannot teach everything in high school.
First,
since the fundamental of Economics is Mathematics, students have to learn
Mathematics instead of basic Economics at first and it is enough to them. If
some students are interested in and want to study Economics, they can choose
basic Economics as an elective subject. And
also, If they eager to getting knowledge of the advanced Economics, they would
be able to take advanced Economic classes in university.
For
example, one of my cousin has never studied Economics in high school in Korea.
Beside his major in Harvard University was Biology. But
since he has been interested in Economics right before his graduation, he
entered London Economic School for a year. And
then he experienced a lot of business experiences like internships in a large
company and consulting firm. Now,
he is a CEO of the investment company in Boston and an expert in Economics.
Second,
students should learn general knowledge, skills and attitude during high school
period which is limited. Suppose
that high school students learn basic Economics. Would it be possible to do
other crucial subjects? The
answer would be "NO". A high school period should be 5 years or more,
however, time is very limited to learn everything. It
is much more important to learn general knowledge and ways to think creatively
than Economics in high school. The
only way for students to grow up successfully would be to focus on the
fundamentals such as Mathematics, Reading, Art, Music, Science, and how to
apply them to other fields or living.
For
these reasons, I think that basic Economics is not necessary to be learned in
high school.
