▶ Your Answer : Some people think that there is no problem in television advertisements which are made for children. However, in my opinion, television advertisements which target young people should not be permitted for two reasons. First of all, advertisements make children have bad consumption habits. In addition, young people can be violent. To begin with, children would have negative consumption habits when they are exposed directly to television advertisements. This is because there are many advertisements which make young people confused. It is difficult for the young to distinguish what is necessary and what is unnecessary. Without this judgement, children will ask their parents to buy all the products which are advertised on television for them. Thus, this bad consumption habits will continue in young people’s future. For example, my friend habitually buys items which are advertised on television. He buys new products at least five days a week but most of the products that he bought are useless. When I visited his house, I found that even some products were not opened at all. He dose not want new products but regularly purchase something. He started this bad habit when he was young and it still continues. As a result, it is evident that children who are exposed to television advertisements directly will have poor habits in the future. On top of that, children can be influenced by harmful advertisements. Many advertisements involves violent and low-quality contents since they have to stimulate children to purchase their products. However, children are not mentally mature so they can be affected by its harmful contents. Thus, the young can be violent and cause several problems at school. For instance, according to a survey conducted by UCLA’s research department, about 80 percent of participants reported that their children became aggressive after they started watching a television advertisement. Sometimes they beat their friends or intentionally broke dishes. The reason for this was a harmful toy gun advertisement. The company of this toy deliberately created the content violent and it had enormous negative impact on children. Consequently, it turns out that the young can become aggressive by television advertisements. To sum up, children can form a poor consumption habits and be violent after watching advertisements. In this regard, I believe that young people should not be exposed to television advertising directly. |
