▶ Topic : Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better to have broad knowledge of many academic subjects than to specialize in one specific subject. |

▶ Your Answer : It is essential to have knowledge of the subjects so that we can live on by using them. Some people might have deep and specific knowledge of one field, while others might have shallow and wide knowledge of various fields. Personally, I believe that studying one specific academic subject is more important in comparison to knowing many things without deep cognition. I feel this way for two main reasons which I will explore in the following essay. If we specialized our knowledge into one concrete area, we will have more opportunities to get a job than people who don't have specialized knowledge. Because there are more supplies than demands in finding jobs today, it will certainly be a benefit for people with specialized thoughts to get more lucrative or profitable jobs. For example, few months ago, my cousin got a job in the electricity company. He told me that one of his friends applied for that company with him but his friend failed it. The irony is that my cousin had less specialties in comparison to his friend. It turns out that his friend had excel certificate, Korean history certificate, Japanese certificate and so forth which are required by many companies in general, but not exactly connected to any of the things that this company was looking for. In contrast, my cousin had searched and prepared just for the electricity certificates which lead him to get a job over his friend. Therefore, it is true that people with specific knowledge get more benefits in job hunting. Moreover, the specialized people will be more qualified to help their field to be improved. There is always certain point when the on-going projects confront the limitation to break through, although that ‘certain point’ is too vague and opened that nobody can define it specifically. However, the experts in each fields who have been accumulating expertise for decades would be able to improve the fields where they are engaging in. For instance, my father had been developing the special wrapping system for 6 years with his team members in his company department. Although there weren't any improvements during that period, they never stopped but experimented as much as they can. Because they are all specialized in wrapping products in the first place, a plenty of experiments eventually lead them to succeed devising new wrapping paper. They've compensated from the company by getting bonus because the boss considered this success as a development of his company either. It wouldn't be possible if they were not specialized in wrapping field. In conclusion, I strongly believe that having special knowledge limited in one field is better than learning various subjects. That is because it gives us the more chances to getting a job compare to the one who has no specialized knowledge, and because it allows us to support the improvement of the specific field.
