Recently, general awareness about the negative
impacts of media such as movies and television on young people has aroused
heated arguments. People have conflicting ideas; while some people way that
that media has positive importance for youngsters, others deem otherwise. It
may seem that the young are showing violent behavior due to the bad influence of
media at glance. However, with in-depth analysis, the statements seem rather too
far-fetched. From my own point of view, I do support the idea that watching
material like movies and television is providing more positive pros than negative
cons.
The
first reason for my opinions is that they could realize social absurdity easily
through movies and television. Social affairs are hard to know if they do not
have interest in or have anyone to tell them what is wrong and not. But television
and movie are good means for young people to easily access it. Even though
those are containing violent and not censored scene, it also is showing problem
the society is having and what we have to do with it. In this way, young people
will join the movement to correct the problem the society is suffering. For example,
one movie was launched in Korea. It was about the corrupt government and young
people who is fighting against them to change the world. It showed a vivid way, and
young people started to interest in political issues. Not for a long day after,
the corruption of government has started to be revealed. Many young people already
had interests in it, they spread the news through SNS and went to protest.
Another
equally, important reason is that they could know not just the local community but
the outside of their country. Many young people do not have enough money to
experience the world and know their cultures. Knowing the variety of culture
and thoughts are very important to survive this globalized world. The media is
a good way to know them easily. For example, the first time I went abroad
was when I was 23. Before then, I prepared to go abroad through movies and television.
Movies showed me not just the appearance of that country, but their history,
which problem they are having, or what is their culture. It was a very effective
way to decide where I should go studying.
In a
nutshell, although whether television and movies are affecting young people badly
or good way is open to interpretation, it seems reasonable to choose the latter
option because of the two reasons discussed in the essay. |
