▶ Your Answer : Some people think that parents do not
need to apply strict rules to their children. However, I think that setting
strict rules for children is necessary. This is because strict rules help
children to improve self-management skill and teach them to discern what the good
and the evil are.
To begin with, applying strict rules to
children helps them to enhance self-management skill. Children usually do not
know how to organize work or time, so it needs to be learned by their parents.
For example, children who are well- disciplined know how to arrange and tidy up
his toys after playing with them. He is supposed to bring them back where they
were, and if he would not do it, he knows that it is not right thing to do.
This experience has tremendous impact on children’s coming life. In school,
they will be able to organize themselves ; tidying up their desks after
studying, bringing back the items used for activities, etc. These demonstrate eventually
the fact that they respect others in the community where they belong.
On top of that, strict rules encourage
children to distinguish the good and the evil. They are not aware of that their
behaviors are good or bad in certain situations except in the case that their
conscience tells them. For example, there are children who treat a puppy in a
harsh way. Parents should correct them when they bother puppies inadvertently
and tell them to treat puppies more kindly. In addition, if children are not
nice and kind to their sibling, parents should discipline them. It is
inevitable to set strict rules because it will finally affect the process of
socialization. Through these experiences, children can distinguish the good
from the evil and adjust their conduct to the former.
To sum up, setting strict rules helps
children not only to improve self-management skill but also to distinguish the
good and the evil. For these reasons, I think that parents should set rules for
their children and exhort them to follow with respect. |
