▶ Your Answer :
It is of importance for some cities whether they preserve old, historical constructions or break down them to construct a new one. In my opinion, I strongly believe that it is better to preserve the building rather than destroy it. There are several reasons and examples as follows.
To begin with, protecting old, historical building in a city enables the city to improve tourism. In fact, most people want to see a unique something when they take a trip. The historical buildings have their own specific stories and it makes tourist interested with the buildings. As a result, it was guaranteed to visit the city to see the remains. For example, there are a lot of historical buildings in France. The country is the best place many travelers like to sightseeing. Let me give a personal experience to explain the idea more clearly. When I went to Paris a few years ago, there was a lot of tourists in the Notre-Dame Cathedral. When I saw the building, I found out the reason why many people love it. The cathedral was beautiful and had attractive shapes, especially its very sharp spear. I fell in love with the beauty. If the city had destroyed the cathedral to build a new one, there would not have been such a huge tourism.
On the top of that, young generation can learn about their history. The more the young people see their old historical buildings directly, the more interests they can have with the buildings. High interests tend to give a chance to increase their motivation to have knowledge about their history. For instance, when I was a elementary student, I used to go picnic with my classmates to the Korean Palace. Whenever I went to there, I was impressed with the fantastic traditional architectures and thus I studied the history how they made of and which techniques used to build them. By doing this, I was able to establish a good educational background about the historical buildings and it was helpful when I studied history subject in middle and high school. As a result, I chose my major as architecture history when I entered the college. Without the experience, I would have chosen another major.
In a nutshell, I am firmly in for the opinion I have mentioned above for the reasons. All in all, the importance of my view cannot be underestimated when people have to decide if they disrupt the old buildings or not. |
