▶ Your Answer :
In the reading
passage, there is ample support for the author’s claim that red rain, which is
a rare climatic phenomenon, appeared in Kerala and the event can be
explained rationally. However, the professor in the lecture gives several
reasons as a rebuttal to the author’s point.
To
begin with, the lecturer argues that it is far-fetched. Because an expert said that
5milion bats have to be destroyed at the exact same time to reach the same
amount as the rain. Also, the event does not contain wings and bones of
the animal. This opposes the reading passage’s claim that the phenomenon (is
made up) of the blood of bat which attacked by a thunderstorm.
On
top of that, the professor points out that it is disproven. To be specific, if
the volcanic eruption happened the rain, the phenomenon should have occurred in the Philippines, as well. However, the rain appeared only in the Indian state of
Kerala. This cast doubt on the reading passage’s claim that the volcano eruption
which consists of a lot of dust in the Philippines caused the event
Finally,
the lecturer asserts that there is no reason the chemical pollution is one of
the factors. To explain specifically, there are only a few factories in the area
where experienced the red rain. So if the pollutants from the factory triggered
the rain, other countries should undergo an identical phenomenon. This refutes
the reading passage’s claim that factories’ chimney with no filter in the Indian state of Kerala causes the red rain. |
