In the twenty-first century, televisions are regarded as indispensable living items in people’s homes. Adults receive up-to-date issues and information on television, while kids learn and amuse themselves by watching children’s programs. However, some parents worry that watching television will have bad effects on their children, such as decreased vision and intense addiction. On the other hand, others state that television influence youngsters positively. In my opinion, parents should discourage children to watch television as it worsens their academic performance and deteriorates their health.
To start with, television prevents children from spending more time and putting more effort into youngsters’ school work, getting low grades as a consequence. Children are facing the stage where continuous development of knowledge is essential for gaining the ability of mapping out successful futures. Therefore, it is crucial for students to take their time to complete activities and homework with effort to widen their knowledge. However, televisions cause students to pass time vacantly, therefore hindering students from spending enough time for their academics. For example, various television programs televise dramas of about an hour long or more for every episode. However, if students decide to watch those programs while studying, they would rapidly lose concentration on studying and eventually pay full attention on television. As a result, students will either have to stay up for the whole night to complete their work, or go to school without finishing it. Thus, parents should guide their children to reserve more time for their academics rather than spending time meaninglessly by sitting in front of the television.
Furthermore, watching too much television is destructive to youngsters’ health, deriving numerous diseases and health problems. Exercising is necessary for every orphans as it assists them to develop basic athletic abilities, which is crucial in order to stay free from infirmities and diseases. Basic physical strength also helps children to concentrate more effectively in school. Yet, watching television inhibits youngsters from creating good exercising habits and encourages them to be lazy by lying on the couch and munching unhealthy junk food. For instance, the term “couch potato” indicates someone who is completely absorbed in television, vegetating on the couch. These couch potatoes would not bother themselves to exercise, or even to move while watching television, gradually making them lazier and fatter. However, lack of exercise is lethal to people- they cause diabetes, and even more dangerous diseases that directly affect their health. In result, parents should prohibit children from watching television and encourage them to go outside and play around, in order to keep them healthy.
