▶ Your Answer :Some people
believe that it is much better to focus on one skill for their successful
lives. However, in my opinion, developing and improving a variety of skills is
paramount in today's society. My two main reasons are as follows: in modern
world, we are required to search and integrate various kinds of things. Also,
we can improve one skill by learning other ones. To begin with, it is needed for us to study
and integrate a variety of information, skills, knowledge, and so on in today’s
divergent society. Because there are a lot of information these days, many
scholars said that contemporary people have to develop there own skills by
integrating and changing into new one. According to one sociology magazine, the most prestige sociologist Michael James said modern society no more requires “specialist” , but requires “generalist”, which means they can do everything. Because of the existence of a flood of divergent
information, all of the companies and nations want the person who integrate
those sources and make into new one. So, it is much important to learn many
skills and utilize it aptly in various situations by thinking creatively.
On top of that, learning and improving many
kinds of skills help us to develop other skills too. In our world, everything are related and tightly connected. So if one improves and become good at many
other skills, it is also more likely to become good at one skill. This is called “Lifting Theory”, in education. The lifting
theory is that if soccer player want to lift the ball 50 times, using their leg. In that case, it is much better to practice lifting not only using leg, but also using
their head, breast, etc. When the player can lift 40 times by using those
parts, then they can easily lift the ball 50 times, only using one leg, too. I have
some personal experiences in these situations. For example, when I played
basketball during high school period, I usually used some skills that I had
learned from soccer class such as running, pivot, etc. And the more I use
soccer skills during playing basketball, the more I founded and created new
skills. I had very strange but exciting experience that all skills are
integrated, and altered into new one. By utilizing soccer skills, I became good
at basketball, and after few years, I was chosen as team leader.
To sum up, in today's various and divergent
society, we need the ability to develop many skills and invent into new one. In
addition, by developing many skills, we are likely to become good at one skill. In
this regard, I firmly believe that developing many different skills are helpful
to improve one skill. |
