One of famous philosopher said that "We are living in the crisis of environment." It clearly shows that environmental issues are no more few people's slogan, all people's problem. However, many people still think that small individuals cannot do anything to protect the environment. I think differently, as I firmly believe that every citizen's little contribution has enormous power to tackle the environment problems. Below, I suggest three ways which every person can do, to protect our Earth's atmosphere, water, and land.
To begin with, we should use public transportation instead of own car to clean our atmosphere. Cars are a main culprit of contaminating atmosphere and global warming. The more vehicles are used in the street, the worse our air quality becomes. Thus, by using public transportation such as subway or bus, we can not only decrease the usage of cars, but also keep our atmosphere clean. To be specific, according to a study by Tokyo Research Center, the air quality of Tokyo has improved significantly due to the increased use of public transportation. Many citizens participated in the movement called "Bus Will Save the Earth" voluntarily, they now live in the cleaner environment. This example makes us realize the power of individuals to protect our atmosphere.
Second, if we use shampoo less, our water will no longer be dirty. Water is one of the most important factors that comprise our daily life. Without clean water, we cannot make our food, keep us clean, and ultimately, cannot live anymore. Therefore, we should take a step to protect our water condition. The most simple, but powerful way to do so is to use shampoo less. Shampoos contain lots of environmentally hazardous chemicals. If each individual does not use or uses them less, our small effort will make a huge impact on water quality. Moreover, there are other methods which protect the quality of water as well as keep our hair clean, such as using natural ingredient soups. By doing so, we can use clean water in a daily life, which also makes our life enriched.
Finally, farmers should not use pesticides to protect lands. Some people argue that pesticides are inevitable to grow foods. However, as the word 'well-being food' suggests, more people nowadays are eager to consume environmentally-friendly food. They want to buy naturally-raised food for our health. In addition, using pesticides too much can decrease not only harmful bugs, but also beneficial insects. This causes a vicious cycle, that is, more usage of pesticide leads to more death of beneficial insects, which deteriorates the quality of food. Not using pesticides can be an win-win solution. Farmers will make more money by providing healthful foods, and lands will keep clean and remain as a natural habitat of good insects.
In conclusion, we must not forget that "one small step is sufficient to change the whole thing." It reflects the importance of each person's effort and contribution. As I mention above, atmosphere, water and land are crucial to our life and can be protected by each individual's small participation. In this respective, it would be silly to argue that a person is powerless. | |
