▶ Your Answer : Some people think that everyone is required to learn how to use computers and should be given access to the internet. However, I disagree with the statement because some people face more urgent problems related to their survival, and computers can often make people waste time.
To begin with, not all people need to get educated on using computers. There are many people in poor countries who struggle with poverty and famine. What they really need is not getting education on computers but food for their daily lives. For example, in some countries in Africa, tens of thousands of people are living on less than one dollar for a day. Formal education is just a luxury for them, and therefore, getting enough food should take the top priority. This is why many people around the world are sending money, food, and other living necessities to them rather than books on computers or others. From this example, one can clearly see that computer education is not necessary for everyone.
On top of that, using computers has a lot of disadvantages. Some people are likely to waste their time using their computers. To be specific, many of my friends tend to spend too much time surfing the internet, chatting with strangers on social network sites, or playing computer games. They know this is not a wise way to use computers, but they cannot help losing control over how to use computers. As a result, they often end up regretting having used up their time in a foolish way. Also, information on the internet can often be unreliable, as in the example of my sister, who wasted a lot of time searching for relevant information for her research on the internet. She complained that there is so much uncertified and false knowledge on computers that she took a lot longer time completing her assignment because she had to take time distinguishing authentic information from false information. She added that had she used library books, she could have finished the work more quickly and efficiently.
To sum up, there are many people living in poverty and starvation who do not need to learn to use computers, and sometimes computers can decrease work efficiency by causing people to squander their precious time. In this regard, I strongly believe that computer education for everyone is impractical and unrealistic. |
