In Korea, hiring teenagers is banned legally for some rational reasons. However, I hear that there are countries that teens have to work and make their own living. As being a teenager myself, I believe teens are yet too young and fragile to set foot in the harsh society, hence they have rights to prepare to enough extent before they do. In other words, I believe teens should be prohibited from working until they become grownups.
First of all, teenagers should not miss the opportunity of attending school and studying. School can be considered as a miniature of the whole society, and while interacting with people there, teens and grow their healthy minds. Teens that are not mentally mature yet get help from teachers to form their identity and grow with ego. Also, blended in with other teens, students learn how to respect others and control their own feelings. Furthermore, by learning subjects taught by professional adults, teenagers get to know more about their aptitude, and select their future job according to those facts figured out. If one rather becomes a laborer in this age, his future would be less prepared than others who finished school- with less time put for studying, making peer friends and learning how to communicate, and even building self-esteem. I bet I would feel very depressed if I were this person.
Second, teens who are inexperienced in work are often mistreated by some wicked adults. As I have mentioned above, teens are yet too delicate to feel the injustice of the society. They are emotionally, mentally, physically pure and weak, and usually are not used to laws that has to do with fairness of labor. The problem is, some adults who know this fact very well would somehow try to exploit them. The employers would not pay them fairly, look down on them, or even insult the teens. Since this could make a person’s personality warped, and mislead his or her life into even deeper despair, hiring teens is never a good idea.
For these reasons, I believe companies or factories should stop taking teens as employees, and it should also be prohibited with the power of law in all nations. |
