Some people might argue that mobile phones
allow people to enjoy freedom. This is because they provide people with more
conveniences in life. However, I believe that mobile phones haven’t given
people freedom for two reasons. First, some people are addicted to mobile
phones. Second, people are usually disturbed by cell phones.
To begin with, many people use cell phones
for a long time because they are addicted to them. They think using cell phones
is fun, relaxing and useful because they can play games, read newspaper and
chatting with people. Therefore, some people lock themselves at home and use
phones all day. According to a research conducted by Seoul National University
of Korea in 2009, there was a huge difference between two groups of children. Children
in Group A used mobile phones for over five hours and those in Group B did not.
The researchers showed that the former group spent 25% less hours on doing
outside activities than the latter group. In particular, the children in Group
A spent their time staying at home and avoided playing outside. On the other
hand, those in Group B spent much time playing with friends and going out to do
outdoor activities. Also, the researchers added that children in Group A were
addicted to mobile phones because they became nervous when they were banned to
use phones. It can be inferred that some people are addicted to mobile phones
and abandon their freedom.
In addition, people can be disturbed all
the time because of mobile phones. Nowadays, people use mobile phones to send
e-mails, chat with others, and make phone calls. Many people think that someone
is avoiding them if he doesn’t receive their calls or doesn’t respond to them
immediately. So, some people feel annoyed to stay alert to their phones and
want to be free. For example, when I was preparing for the exam in the
university, I was often bothered by my phone. There was a famous application
for chat among Koreans, which called Kakaotalk. I had a chat room in the
application with my friends. They always chatted there even if I was not chatting.
Therefore, my phone always rang and annoyed me when I was studying. Eventually,
I stopped using my phone before I took the exam since I wanted to be free. In
this respect, mobile phones interrupt people to enjoy their freedom.
To sum up, the importance of my view cannot
be underestimated for the reasons I have mentioned above. All in all, this
trend will continue for the next generation. |
