Right after the period of industrial revolution, we have lived in a
world that is full of things to buy. At the same time, all the enterprises try
to sell us everything, and TV advertising is one method they choose in this
process. The situation got worse and there are even TV advertisements targeted
at children younger than five years old--more like babies. This phenomenon
should not be ignored and those advertisements must strongly be banned, for
they are bad for the child him/herself, for the family, and even for the whole
country.
To start with, the advertisements will do harm to the children's brain
work. We all know that watching television is not a very healthy habit for all
people and especially for children. The reason is that the images shown on the
television screen paralyze the part of the brain that controls our vision,
because the light and the color are too sensational. If, however, there is an
advertisement of their favorite robots or Barbie dolls, the young children will
be watching the television, never knowing that they are ruining their brains by
themselves. It is the adults' oblige to let our children grow up in healthy
condition.
In addition, TV commercials for children will cause a trouble in family
economy in the end. Fundamentally, advertisements were made merely to give consumers
information. In other words deciding whether to buy the product or not is on
the consumer. However, the young children watching the commercials are not able
to make such an economic decision. When they see what they want, all they are
going to do is nagging their parents to buy it. Most parents feel uneasy when
they reject on their children, so they will going to buy toys and other child
products, even though they already have enough. No wonder economic situation of
the family will get worse in our world compared to the one that doesn't have
advertisements for children.
Above all, given that advertisements aimed at children are bad for the
reasons I previously mentioned; it is a great social loss for the country to
broadcast it. People, both adults and children, will be wasting their time
watching the commercials that will bring them harm in the end. They could do
something more productive at the same time, instead of watching unnecessary
advertisements. To sum up, for children's mental health and parents' economic
better-off, the advertisements directed at children younger than 5 must be
prohibited as a law. |
