▶ Your Answer :
Government
control on social services can make various effects. I suggest governments
should spend more money in public transportation services, especially with some
reasons below. The number of people who use public transportation is bigger
than that of people who use internet. Moreover, government control can lower
the fundamental costs of public transportation.
First, much more
people are affected by public transportation services than internet services. A
big stock of people move by bus, subway, train, etc. every day. Among them, there
would be some people who use internet not at all, or just a little. Internet
has been existed from just about 20 years ago. Even if it is important
nowadays, people can live without good internet services with some
inconvenience. If public transportation is bad, however, the whole society immediately
falls into a chaos. To illustrate, last year in Seoul, a line of subway was out
of order for a short span of time. Even if only one line was broken down, the
other lines were terribly crowded, and I was late to my meeting.
In addition,
government control should influence on the service which needs it. Some social
services require government intervention to be more efficient, while others
have much more side effects with the intervention. In this case, the former is
public transportation, and the latter is internet access. Internet services
would lower their fee and improve in their quality if the private companies contest
each other in the market. In case of public transportation, like water or
electricity supply, basic costs of substructures would be lowered when
governments stand as only one supplier. For example, Japanese subway lines are
built by several private companies, line by line. Each line is established and
controlled by different companies, and those companies would pay various rudimentary
costs for subway lines respectively.
In conclusion, I
would recommend governments to spend money in improving public transportation. Generally,
transportation is more crucial for human life than internet access. And if
companies are allowed to improve and provide internet services, they would release
services of higher quality not to be failed in the market. It is more desirable
not to interfere in internet access unnecessarily. |
