Because of a single, but impressive phrase,
one's life can be changed. Also, people live by learning from each other.
Generally speaking, I believe that students are affected more by their teachers
than their friends for some reasons.
First of all, teachers give good advices.
Whenever students have problems in school or home, teachers are always ready to
help out students. For example, I can recall when I was in the middle school;
there was an English teacher whom I considered as my mentor. As a typical
teenager, I had much trouble with my family. Whenever I felt like doing
something bad, my teacher corrected me and gave me great advices that were very
helpful at that time. She did not judge me, but understood my feeling and
situation.
In addition to teacher's advice, I think
that teachers help students choose what to study. For example, one of my best
friends in high school, who did not know what to study, talked with a
psychology teacher, and did some personality tests. When he got the result, he
found out that he was good at listening, and counseling people. This led him to
choose his career in university, which was psychology and counseling. I still
remember how excited he was and thankful to the psychology teacher.
Finally, I believe that students learn a
lot from teachers. Most of teachers have a great range of knowledge. Not only do
they have knowledge from books, but also from their life experiences. For
example, I can recall a Bible teacher from my senior year in high school who
always tried to tell us his life, so we can learn from his success or mistake.
What he told us affect my life so greatly, because I learned so much about God
and how to protect my faith. My Bible teacher was very intelligent and knew a
lot about everything, so whenever I had theological question, he answered me
with generosity.
By way of conclusion, based on the
arguments explained above, I am of the opinion that in most cases it is
actually that teachers are more influential to students than their friends. I
will be the first to admit that there are teachers who do not really care about
students and they just teach because they have to. However, I strongly believe
that in the world there are still many teachers who struggle to impact
students' lives in amazing ways.
