Children should begin learning a foreign language as soon as they start school. A/DIS Some people think that children need to learn a foreign language as soon as they enter the school. However, in my opinion, students have many other important things to learn from school. It means they should focus on their mother tongue to read material well and it is not late to learn foreign language after years. To begin with, children who start to school first should equip with native language fluently. This is because school subjects such as history, science, and even music are written in their mother tongue. For example, when my cousin enter the elementary school, he had difficulty time to studying academic subjects. A school where he have attend require all students to learn foreign language as quickly as possible. But my cousin were poor at speaking in native languages, so he was not able to learn both science and foreign languages for a year. In other words, it is very inefficient to study a non-native language when kid start school. On top of that, it is more easier for children to learn a foreign language after years. By attending school many years, they can pile up diverse knowledges. With them, people can obtain a second language more lightly. A survey conducted Ministry of Korea Education, students who study a second language after years are ranked higher communication abilities than learn a foreign language as soon as they enter the school. The cause of this phenomena is attributed to built knowledges that they have studied during school attending. It means, the more knowledgable in subjects the better acquire a foreign language. To sum up, school should teach a second language slowly to children. Students not only can be confused when they learn multiple languages but they can also acquire a foreign language more easily after years. In this regard, I utterly disagree with the opinion that students have to study a foreign languages as soon as they start school. |
