▶ Your Answer :
Many people tend to regard science as a positive field that has helped the world to modernize and advance. But I have a different idea. Some scientific discoveries have also led to environmental devastation and massive destruction. It is my view that scientists should take responsibility for these negative consequences.
First of all, technologies for exploiting of natural resources have been developed by many scientists, and it caused a plenty of environmental problems. A specific example of these problems is a sinking city, Venice, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, due to global warming. The main factor of global warming is excessively using energy sources such as fossil fuels and numerous scientific technologies are being inevitably applied in this process. Furthermore, a wide range of technologies for developing forest resources led to deforestation. As a result, it decreased biological diversity and caused many natural disasters. In fact, there were many scientists who were trying to solve these problems, but most of these efforts went in vain or aggravated the situations. For these reasons, I strongly believe that scientists are to blame for environmental problems.
In addition, a number of scientists have contributed to developing weapons of mass destruction. This was the huge obstacles to human's genuine advances because of misused scientific knowledge. Although scientists argue that they maintain a value-neutrality, it is no more than justification. Due to their research of war techniques, a lot of innocent people were died and severely damaged. For example, United Stated dropped atomic bombs on Japan in the Second World War. This led to death of many people and its negative influences still has been going on. If scientists had not developed an atomic bomb, many lives could have been saved. What's worse, a scale and destructive power of wars among countries are becoming more enormous as advance in the war-techniques. These ramifications cannot be justified at all. Therefore, scientist should have a heavy sense of responsibility for their development.
In conclusion, without doubt, it is clear that scientists should be blamed for the adverse effects of their finds. The reason is that they gave rise to destruction of the environment and increasing the cruelty of war.
