Some people think that college has to spend as much money on sports as they do on libraries. However, I firmly disagree that universities should not spend much money on supporting sports for two reasons; fairness and legitimacy.
To begin with, it is not fair to support financially to sports the same amount of money as libraries since beneficiaries are limited. Library is for all college students. Every college student has right to access to library as their college students. On the other hand, only the certain number of students join sports club or play as college’s sports team. If college extends its expenditure on sports, students who can’t benefit from it must be upset.
On top of that, university is the place where young people study for maturing intellectually and mentally in order to live their life well not where they make sports star. That is why there are many majors, such as liberal arts, engineering and business and so on. For example, there is only one physical related major which is department of Physical Education in my university. For this reason, I think university need to plan appropriate amount of budget on supporting sports
To sum up, if college spends the same sum of budget on sports as libraries, it doesn’t provide benefit with every student. Furthermore, when we think about the purpose of university, it is not reasonable budget plan.
In this regard, I wholeheartedly disagree that college should spend as much money on sports as they do on libraries.
