There are some students who do not agree with the statement that universities should spend equal amount of money both on sports and libraries. This is because investing in sports encourages students not to concentrate on their academic works and disturb others not to study. However, in my opinion, I agree with the statement that universities should invest same money both in sports and libraries.
To begin with, investing similar money both in sports and libraries helps not only students' health but also their study. If students' health get worse, especially because of the lack of exercise, they will not study as much as they can when they are robust. Therefore, universities need to encourage students to exercise by investing in sports, so that they can be healthy. This way students can balance their study with their health. One study by the National Health and Brain Center has shown that students who both good at exercise and study has shown better academic performance than others who put their emphasis only on study. In addition, one that only study was more vulnerable to diseases, which disturbs him or her not to focus on study. This shows how important and necessary investing in sports is.
On top of that, spending as much money on sports as they do on libraries brings more opportunities to contribute to the local society and to raise the status of a university. One university can invite the locals to the shcool by offering a chance to use sports facilities and attend several physical education classes for free. Then the university can communicate with the locals, which can enhance the reputation of the school. As such, this can improve the life quality of the locals as well as the status of the university. For instance, the reputaion of local universities in Korea usually not good for people. However, Busan university in Busan city has tried to communicate with the Busan citizens by providing a chance to utilize the sports facilities and the opportunity to attend a physical education class in the school without any charge. After the initiation of communication between the school and Busan citizens, the university could contribute to the city a lot and the status of the school have been rised by 15%.
In conclusion, investing same amount of money both in sports and libraries can help students to balance their study with their health. Moreover, it also contributes to the local community, which results in the improvement of the school's reputation. In this regard, I firmly believe that universities should spend as much money on sports as they do on libraries. |
