▶ Your Answer :
It is controversial over whether keeping
old friends is more cherish than making new friends. Some argue that making new
friends is more valuable than trying to keep friends by explaining the
importance of constructing human network. They generally think having a wide
network is better for their life convenience. However, I disagree with their
argument. Two following reasons are going to support my opinion.
First, maintaining a friend relationship
for a long time proves the fact that an old friend relationship contains
credibility and confidence. However, in new friend relationship, it would be
harder to expect such belief, because they do not much know each other. For
example, when people have some secret but need to have an advice, they might
want to have a talk with a believable friend. In this situation, they would
choose a friend among their old friends because people do not know whether a
new friend would keep their secret or not. Therefore, keeping old friends is
important thing.
Second, friends in long relationship
generally tend to help each other with no leverages. However, friends in the
new relationship are not. For example, when people fall in bankruptcy and need
some money, they tend to find their old friends rather than new friends,
because a friend in new relationship is more likely to press moneyback rather
than a friend in old relationship. This is true the fact that new friends are
usually short-tempered in lending money situation, since there are no credit
enough between new relationships. On the other hand, friends in long
relationship do not much care about moneyback, rather they worry about their
friend's situation. It can be happen because the time they have spent together
makes people think about their friend then money. This is one of reasons why
keeping old friends is critical.
As I have stated above, keeping old friends
is important than having new friend relationship because we cannot ignore the
power of aggregated credibility and confidence between old relationships.
Furthermore, no leverages in relationship is where keeping old friends is at
strongest.
