Great advance in technology has allowed us to replace human workforce into machinery. Even education is now available through educational TV programs and Internet lectures. However, traditional teaching skills in schools still seems to be far better than these new technology. Thus, if being asked to choose between studying at home with modern technology and studying at school as a student, traditional schools would definitely be my choice since social skills and effective studying method are what I most concern when it comes to education.
To begin with, students learn social skills by building relationships with their peers, seniors and teachers at school. Group projects, class discussion, and even conflicts and fights with their friends that could be only done in traditional schools would give students an opportunity to learn cooperation, responsibility, and leadership that are needed in social lives. Most of the current jobs require to work with other people and share opinions as works would be more efficiently done with people from various field and backgrounds. Students definitely need to learn how to persuade and express their opinions freely in front of others and how to work in groups. Since presentations, formal meetings, and even basic works are impossible without good social skills, students need to learn these in traditional school with many other students and teachers.
On top of that, traditional schools would provide more effective studying environment than at home. Students are able to ask questions right away in person to their friends and teachers after the class when they have some problems in understanding certain materials. Not only video clips, images, additional writings but also facial expressions, tone of speaking, and some gestures used when explaining can help students understand the answers while information from the computers or other machineries often contain inaccurate ones and have difficulty understanding it. Advice from teachers would also give useful information about the study method. Teachers who are professional in education and have undergone similar experience with students before can advise according to the students' characteristic, personality, progress, or grades that they have monitored at school. Competition with other students would also improve the concentration in studies. Therefore, students can study in a better environment when attending traditional schools.
To conclude, traditional schools teach students some social skills needed in their future career and provide better studying environment; hence, I would like to attend traditional school rather than studying at home with computers or television if being asked to choose between the two. Traditional schools not only are essential in building skills or learn knowledge but also give students some precious memories and experience with their peers. |
