▶ Your Answer :
Libraries and sports are definitely two of the most important things that universities would not want to give up. However, with limited funds, universities cannot always freely use their money to students for everything they need and even sometimes be forced to make some choices between these two. If being asked to decide the amount of funds for sports and money, I would spend as much money on sports as I do on libraries since studying efficiency and social skills are what I most concern in university.
To begin with, sports activities improve students' studying efficiency by getting rid of stress and give some time to refresh themselves from studies. University students are evidently under a lot of pressure recently due to the rapid environment change, pressure for preparing the future career, and endless projects and studies for exams. By exercising, students can maintain not only their physical health but also mental health which plays an important role in the efficiency of studying. Sports also provides some chances to refresh students from studying. According to the experiment held in BIHS, a school specialized in foreign language and international relationships, a strong relationship between the concentration of studies and sports activities has been found. Regular exercise improves the concentration which makes the studies more time-efficient. Therefore, sports activities have a positive influence on studying efficiency
On top of that, students can learn social skills during the sports activities. They are able to meet many people from other departments in the university gym, by participating in the university sports event, or joining the sports club. These opportunities to interact with other people would help students become more social. There was a report in one school monthly magazine that team sports help intrinsic or shy students gain confidence and act more comfortable in front of many people. Students can also learn how to cooperate, persuade, share opinions, and talk freely in front of many people. Social skills gained from these sports activities are required for their future career since most of the jobs need to work with many other people from various fields. Thus, sports activities allow students to get social skills needed for their future careers.
To conclude, sports activities are equally as important as libraries for university students because of improvement in studying efficiency and social skills; hence, universities should use the same amount of money for sports and libraries. Many students and educational officials now ignore the importance of sports and focus only on academic subjects. We all need to work hard to change this negative public awareness toward students sports activities.
