There are a lot of controversies over whether what is the best way to reduce stress and relax. Some people may prefer to hang out with friends when stressed out. However, I prefer to spend time alone when I'm stressed out. Because, by spending time alone, I will be able to have enough time to calm my self down. Also, when I get stressed out, I get cranky to other people around me and hurt their feelings.
To start with, I think that by spending time alone, people can earn oneself a free time only for himself, which helps to calm down, and contemplate about the reason why he is stressed out. In a quiet, private space, people can concentrate better and becomes more reasonable. By doing so, people decide more prudently what they should do next. For example, I got a really bad grade beyond my expectation when I was sophomore year. Naturally, I got extremely stressed out about the grade I have received. And then I have determined to improve my grades. So I went to my room, figuring out what to do next and how I should do. Few days later, I made up the schedule for the plan to improve my grades. And by the next semester, I almost got scholarship, but failed. However, I have attained more important matter. I have gained confidence about studying.
Secondly, for myself I easily get cranky to other people when I'm under a lot of pressure, therefore I hurt their feelings whether I like it or not. This is the reason why I think it is better to spend time alone when I'm stressed out. By spending time alone, I can prevent myself from doing unsavory actions that I might regret. There is a research to support my point. A study was conducted few years ago, by the psychology department of Yonsei University, which indicates that people who tend to hurt other people's feeling when they are stressed out was able to manage their tempers when they are alone. Over time, the subject group showed gradual reduction of stress levels, and showed no indication of anxiety.
In summary, I know there are people tends to spend time with friends when they are stressed out. However, there also are people like me, who likes to spend free time only for myself. | |
