Recently, there have been lots of controversial issues concerning whether traveling with a tour group is the best way to travel. There are still on-going debates on this topic, and the answer to this topic can vary greatly depending on the individual perspectives. However, in this set of essay, I disagree with the topic for the following two noteworthy reasons. First, individuals can travel more freely without the tour groups. Second, the information that the tour guides present can also be found elsewhere.
To begin with, tourists are able to travel more freely, allowing them to travel according to their own schedule when traveling without tour groups. Although traveling with a tour group can be more organized and well planned, they are often too rushed and tiring. Rather than having a tiring trip, most people tend to prefer relaxing and enjoyable trips. By traveling in their own, the tourist can make their own schedules, which are more flexible than the tour group schedules, making the trip more free and adjustable. Also, traveling in their own is more convenient, as the tourist do not have to worry about disturbing others in the tour group. According to a poll taken by the “Hana Tour Group”, about 50 percent of the tourists who have taken a trip with a group were unsatisfied by the tour groups. It has been reported that the main reasons of this was the tight schedules and noisy tourists from the groups. Due to the unsatisfactions, the number of tourists using the tour groups has decreased significantly over the few years, whereas the number of tourists traveling by themselves has increased. In this sense, it is evident that traveling with a tour group is not the best way of traveling.
In addition, the explanations of attractions that the tour guides give can be found elsewhere. Many tourists take a tour with a tour group in order to listen to the explanations of the attractions they visit. Although the tour guides have great understanding and knowledge about the attractions, the information can also be found in places, such as the internet and information centers. The internet can be literary used anytime with the smartphones and computers and information centers are available at most of the attractions, so with the advanced technologies, there is really no point of being led by tour groups. To take myself as an example, when I went on a trip to New York City, I traveled by myself. Although there was nobody there to guide me through the enormous city, I was still able to visit all the famous attractions, like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and Central Park. From the trip, I learned quite a lot of new information about the history of New York, just by searching the internet with my laptop! Without spending any extra money to listen to the tour guide, I was able to get enough information about New York, and I was fairly satisfied with the trip. In this regard, it is apparent that tour groups are not the best way to travel.
In conclusion, I strongly argue for my standpoint on account of the two reasons: tour groups limit the freedom of the tour, and tour guides are not necessary because of the new technologies that provide us if the attraction information. Although the verdict may still be out, with regards to the two reasons, there is no doubt that being led by a tour group is not the best way to travel.
