The author insists that even though bonobos and chimpanzees are almost same in their genetic and anatomical structure, it is clear that bonobos are by nature very docile animals, on the otherhand, chimpanzees are innately aggresive. The lecturer casts doubt on the reading passage's claim by giving three reasons below.
First of all, the speaker asserts that wild bonobos are actually very aggresive like chimpanzees. An experiment on the bonobos conducted in Congo verified that wild bonobos showed brutal attitudes such as throwing objects or fighting with other bonobos. This directly contradicts the reading passage's claim that bonobos are gentle and peaceful animal than chimpanzees.
Secondly, the lecturer emphasizes that the bonobos rarely attack their young members because young bonobos usually accompany with their parents. On the otherhand, young chimpanzees who are not normally with their parents treated like a stranger and easily attacked by adult chipanzees. This refutes the reading passage's claim that bonobos do not attack young member of the group because they are always affectionate.
Lastly, the speaker contends that chimpanzees eat meats because there are not enough fruits supply. Furthermore, chimpanzees who lost their territory because of human activities, have no choice but to eat meats. If bonovos could not get enough source of fruits, they might eat meats too like chimpanzees did. This directly rebutes the reading passage's claim that bonovos have a vegetarian diet, while chimpanzees are carnivorous.
