Some people might think that the past has no worth for living in the present. In a long-term perspective, I strongly disagree with the statement. Needless to say, the past has very important value for us. There are numerous reasons to support this opinion, however I will mention two main supporting ideas here.
First of all, the past is equal to our futurama. People have learned through their past experience and got lots of lessons from it. Therefore, currently we find the right way of the present and succeed in avoiding a failure. To be specific, young German student have to study a history because it is a mendatory subject. During taking the course, they are taught about World war and learn human ethics. This is an effort of self-reflection by German people who were responsible for ourbreaking World War. As a result, young German student will grow an ethical adult, knowing the importance of peace. Like this example, the past gives us a powerful lesson to live the present and the future.
On top of that, the past is like a meaningful gift with other people since human couldn't live alone. For example, many students who are currently studying abroad bring a photo of family in their wallet. Due to living alone abroad, the students often feel lonely. In that case, when they look the photo, they may recall happy moments with their family, gain power and even treat a homesick. In other words, the past is precious recollection of life, giving a driving force for the present.
To sum up, the past has a necessary role in living in the present. It gives us useful lesson for the present. In addition, it contains priceless remembrance of life. In short, we might remind one of the old maxims, saying that the present is a mirror of the past.
